ISA Transfers
What's on this page?
Why transfer an ISA?
If you transfer one type of ISA to another, or to a different provider, the interest you earn on your savings stays tax free.
An ISA transfer is not the same as paying money in. You can transfer ISA savings from a previous tax year without affecting how much you can pay in this tax year.
Please check the terms and conditions of the ISA you’re transferring to and from, in case there are any withdrawal restrictions or charges.
ISA transfer rules
You can transfer your ISA savings between different types of ISA and different providers. Transfers don’t affect your annual ISA allowance.
Please make sure you transfer your savings using an ‘ISA transfer’ process. If you make the payment yourself, your money will lose its tax-free status.
With YBS, if you want to transfer your ISA savings from the current tax year, you must transfer the full balance.
If you’re transferring savings from a previous tax year’s allowance, you can transfer the full balance or part of it.
For more information, have a look at our guide to transferring Cash ISAs.
ISA providers have 15 working days to transfer Cash ISAs and 26 working days to transfer Stocks and Shares ISAs.
Cash ISA transfer process
If you want to transfer a Cash ISA to a Cash ISA with a different provider, this is how it works:
- Find the Cash ISA you want to transfer your old or current Cash ISA to.
- Check for any charges or terms and conditions that may affect you transferring a Cash ISA.
- Contact the provider of the Cash ISA you want to transfer to.
- Complete the ISA transfer form they provide you with (this is either a paper form or online form).
Do not close your account yourself and transfer the money to your new provider, as you'll lose your tax-free status.
